It is hard to imagine the size of the property. In the Middle Ages it was two houses divided by a cobbled lane. Later on, these houses were joined and the lane was replaced by a grand staircase with a vast skylight creating an atrium. It is this which separates the Riverside Gîte with its view across the river, from the Market Gîte, which overlooks the cobbled street and ancient covered market place. The gîtes are totally independent but share a common entrance.
Cross the shop and you arrive in the atrium with its grand staircase. Here you will find the little wooden door which leads you down an old stone staircase to the terraced garden above the riverbank. On the way you will pass a vaulted cellar--the oldest part of the house--where there is a table tennis table.
The Riverside and Market Gîtes are both on the first floor at the top of the grand spiral staircase. Kate and Roger’s apartment is at the very top of the house. One of them will be on hand should you want advice on local walks, restaurants, beaches or activities.
The Garden & River Swimming
The terraced garden, with the round stone table and benches is a lovely place to eat alfresco and the pebbly beach beneath the terrace is a perfect place to BBQ. There is a vast expanse of riverbank where you can take loungers, lie in the sun listening to the sound of the river, or go for a swim. The soothing sound of the water flowing over the pebbles allows you to relax the mind and heal the body.
The house’s prime position in the village gives you a feeling of being in the countryside, yet you are just minutes walk from restaurants, shops and all amenities.
Parking - You can drive up to the house to unload shopping and your bags, then return down the cobbled street to the visitors car park P2. This is a mere 200m walk from the house. We also park here.
Craniosacral Therapy - Kate has a treatment room in the house. The therapy is gentle yet profound, and helps relieve a variety of ailments leaving you with a deep sense of relaxation. It is a great way to start your holiday.
